What effects does the alloying element nitrogen have on the material properties?

Stickstoff N:

  • makes steel brittle
  • prevents dislocation movements, especially above 200°C, embrittlement sets in very quickly.
  • Due to the blue annealing color of nitrogen-containing steel at temperatures between 200°C and 300°C, the effect is also called blue brittleness.
